Bruins Advance In Four Events For OHSAA Swimming State Championships-Feb.18, 2008
For the second consecutive season, the Padua Franciscan girls' swimmming team will be represented at the State Championships. Making her second appearance is senior Brittany Krauth, whom advanced in the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.24-school record) and is part of the 200 yard medley relay and 400 yard freestyle relay. Joining Krauth in the 200 yard medley relay will be senior Marissa Mehwald, sophomore Ally Sowinski and junior Annette Frac. At the Districts this foursome set a new school record with a time of 1:57.45. The 400 yard freestyle relay of Krauth, Frac, sophomore Sammie Sowinski and senior Devon Bobulsky also set a school record (3:50.70). Annette Frac will also be competing in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.79). The six Bruin qualifiers will be competing on Feb. 22nd-23rd at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio. Bruin Diver Advances To OHSAA State Championships-Feb. 17, 2008
Sophomore Kelcie Mehwald became the first female diver in school history to qualify for the OHSAA State Tournament. Mehwald finished fifth in the Cleveland State University Division II District with a 319.55 points. Mehwald will compete at the Branin Natatourium in Canton, Ohio on Feb. 21st.
Bruins Advance To OHSAA Districts-Feb. 10, 2008
The Bruin swimming team will be well represented on Friday, Feb. 15th-16th at OHSAA Districts held at Cleveland State University. PFHS advanced nine swimmers total to compete for a chance to qualify for the OHSAA Championships. Senior Melvin Vazquez advnaced for in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard breastroke. The following girls advanced to the District Championships:

Boys' & Girls' Swim Teams Finish Second In NCL Championships
The Bruin swimmers showed a lot of team spirit on Feb. 2nd versus the four NCL opponents at Oberlin College. The girls' squad won four events to compile 87 total points. Junior Annette Frac won the 500 free (5:37.47) and 200 free (2:02.82) and was named NCL Female MVP. Senior Brittany Krauth won the 100 fly (1:03.38) and 200 IM (2:19.50). The team of Krauth, Frac along with senior Devon Bobulsky and freshman Sammie Sowinski won the 400 freestyle. The boys' sqaud which compiled 66 were led by Senior Melvin Vazquez who won the 100 breast (1:04.46). Both sqauds will be competing at the Sectional Championships on Feb. 8-9 at Lakewood H.S.

Bruin Swimmers Continue Pool Excellence-January 25, 2008
The varsity boys' and girls' swimming teams had another outstanding week defeating Parma H.S. (Jan. 23rd) and Fairview (Jan. 25th). The Bruin girls' swimming team won 125-48 over Parma H.S. while the boys' squad defeated the Redmen 116-32. The Bruins wer led by seniors Melvin Vazquez (200 IM-2:32.49/100 back-1:19.72) , Dave Hamilton (100 free-1:01.65/100 breast-1:23.77) and Andriy Chepak (200 free-2:30.67/400 free-5:19.63) who each won two events. The following students were also individual winners on Wednesday evening:

The Bruins are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2nd at the NCL Championships at Oberling College. The opening race is slated for 11:00 a.m.
Bruin Swimmers Have Record Breaking Day-Dec. 29, 2007
On December 29th at Valley Forge High School, the girls swimming team made history three times at the Parma Championships. The Bruins won the meet accumulating 305 points, however the story of the afternoon for the Bruins was setting three meet records. Sophomore diver Kelcie Mehwald set the first record accumulating 235.65 points in her six dives. This is also a school record for the Bruins. Senior Brittany Krauth won the 100 fly (1:11.94) and also set a meet record in the 400 free (5:03.88). Junior Annette Frac was a double winner in the 200 free (2:24.81) and 100 free (1:05.90). The day was wrapped up by sophomore Sammie Sowinski, senior Devon Bobulsky along with Krauth and Frac setting a meet record in the 400 freestyle relay (4:30.81). The Bruin boys squad finished third overall and were led by senior Melvin Vazquez who won the 100 breaststroke (1:14.37) and 200 IM (2:28.88).
