Members of this organization promote the studies of the cultures and languages of Latin and Greek. To be a member, a student must be enrolled in Latin and/or Greek. Annually, all of our students take the National Latin Examination, which is given in March. The students are offered and encouraged to take cultural trips to Italy and Greece. Locally, students may attend special museum exhibits, Latin mass, attend or view films with classical themes, attend state conventions (OJCL), and plan social activities, like cultural "cenae Romanae" (Roman dinners), outside school. Our Latin Club chapter will have four officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) who will meet the third Monday of every month to plan the club's next activities. All clubmembers are invited to come to the monthly meeting on the fourth Monday of every month. In addition to the four main officers of the club, each class (Latin I, II, III, and IV) will elect a representative and an alternate who can report to the class after each meeting to keep everyone up to date with the club's activities.
A Senior Latin IV student gets the opportunity to teach for the day in Mr. Lupica's Latin classes as a part of the National Honors Society's annual "Turnabout Day"
The National Junior Classical League and American Classical League in May will award 40 Padua Latin students with award medals, ribbons and certificates for their recent exceptional performance on the 2005 National Latin Examination. This examination is a national and international standardized test administered by the American Classical League each March which appraises students on their knowledge of Latin grammar, vocabulary and civilization/ culture through reading proficiency in each of the four levels of Latin language and literature.
This year in 2005, Padua received its highest number of awards based upon the following distribution: Latin I: 19 students, Latin II: 7 students, Latin III: 10 students, Latin IV: 4 students. In 2003 and 2004, Padua students had already received 33 and 36 awards. The results of this year show a clearly growing trend.
