PERFORMANCE AND INSTRUMENTAL

Brass Quintet
Upper class students who play the trombone, tuba, trumpet, or french horn can participate in Brass Quintet by appointment of the instructor.

Marching Band
The Padua Franciscan "Marching Bruins" are comprised of students of all grades and ability levels who play any wind or percussion instruments, dance, or would like to spin a flag.  The marching band performs at all varsity football games, pep rallies, and other selected events such as parades or band shows through out the year.  Other performances in recent years have included:  The Cleveland St. Patrick's Day Parade (Where the band has received 2 consecutive 1st place finishes!), the Parma Labor Day Parade, Downtown Cleveland's "Winterfest," and band shows in Parma, Avon Lake, Medina, and Lorain.  Throughout the first semester, the band rehearses on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30pm - 5:30pm.  All members must attend summer band camp during the last two weeks of July.  Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals and performances unless approved by the director in advance of any absences.  Course grade and credit are awarded at the end of the first semester (1/4 credit).

     Dance Team
     The Padua Franciscan "Bruinettes" Dance Team is one unit of the Padua Franciscan
     Marching Band.  The Bruinettes are comprised of 10-14 girls who are accepted by
     audition only.  Dance experience is highly recommended.  Auditions are typically in
     April and last for a few days, all of which are mandatory.  The Bruinettes are
     responsible for all rehearsals and performances as outlined by the Padua Franciscan
     Marching Band schedule.  The Bruinettes also host a one-day clinic on
     President's Day for grades 4 through 8.

     Color Guard
     The Padua Franciscan Color Guard is one unit of the Padua Franciscan Marching
     Band.  The color guard is comprised of 10 - 14 girls who are accepted by
     audition only.  No prior flag experience is necessary - skills needed will be 
     taught at audition camps in April.  The color guard is responsible for all rehearsals
     and performances as outlined by the Padua Franciscan Marching Band schedule.

Orchestra
Orchestra is open to all string performers and selected wind and percussion players. Members are required to perform in four major concerts, OMEA contests, string festivals, public events and school performances. Every other year members will be required to perform in the Spring Musical Orchestra. This group will go on tour to local elementary schools in the spring. Wind and percussion players are also required to be members of Music Ensemble. This group performs a wide variety of serious musical literature as well as popular, representing all of the major periods of musical composition.

Spirit Band
The Padua Franciscan Spirit Band is a volunteer group comprised of students of all grades who play any wind or percussion instrument.  This band uses drum set, guitars, and electric bass by permission of the director.  Spirit Band plays a variety of rock and pop music as halftime entertainment for select home basketball games (varsity boys and girls), and for winter and spring rallies.  Additional performances in recent years have included Padua Varsity Hockey games (played at IceLand USA in Strongsville), public relation performances at local grade schools, and a performance at a rally for Vice President Dick Cheney during the presidential election of 2004.  Students interested in Spirit Band should contact Mr. Wozniak at mwozniak@paduafranciscan.com.

Stage Band
This musical group meets before first period to study and practice compositions from various periods of popular music (1/2 credit).

String Ensemble
Upper class students who play the violin, viola, cello, or bass can participate in String Ensemble by appointment of the instructor.

String Quartet
Upper class students who play the violin, viola, or cello can participate in String Quartet by appointment of the instructor.

Symphonic Band
This group is open to advanced woodwind, brass and percussion players. The band performs at four major concerts each year. Students audition for the instructor. (1 credit).



VOCAL GROUPS


A Capella Choir
This is a select vocal ensemble which focuses on the performance of a Capella works, including madrigal and barbershop. (1/4 credit)

Chorale
Chorale continues the development and mastery of basic vocal skills and musicianship, including sight-reading, ear-training, and music theory. Previous choral experience is required. The group performs at concerts, OMEA competitions, and public events. (1 credit)

Concert Choir
The concert choir is a training choir for students with no choral experience on the high school level. Students learn vocal production, sight-reading, part- singing and choral diction. (1 credit)

Honors Choir
Membership in A Capella or Men's Ensemble as well as audition are required for admission to the Honors Choir. The group performs at school and community concerts.

Men's Ensemble
This select vocal ensemble, which requires an audition and approval of the instructor, focuses its performance on chamber music. (1/4 credit)

Spring Musical
The spring musical is an annual Padua event you don't want to miss! All students have the opportunity to be part of a great cast and crew which make the whole event come together.
