Cheerleading

Cheerleading tryouts for Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are held in the spring. You have the chance to cheer for football or basketball, as a junior varsity or varsity cheerleader. Padua cheerleaders lead the student body in enthusiastic support during athletic competition. They also promote school spirit by making signs, decorating lockers, and planning and participating in pep rallies.

Marching Band

The Padua Franciscan “Marching Bruins” are comprised of students of all grades and ability levels who play any wind or percussion instruments, dance, or would like to spin a flag.  The marching band performs at all varsity football games, pep rallies, and other selected events such as parades or band shows through out the year.  Other performances in recent years have included:  The Cleveland St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Parma Labor Day Parade, Downtown Cleveland’s “Winterfest”, and band shows in the surrounding communities.  Throughout the first semester, the band rehearses on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  All members must attend summer band camp during the two weeks before school starts.   Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals and performances unless approved by the director in advance of any absences.  Course grade and credit are awarded at the end of the first semester (1/4 credit).

Dance Team

The Padua Franciscan “Bruinettes” Dance Team is one unit of the Padua Franciscan Marching Band. The Bruinettes are comprised of 10-14 girls who are accepted by audition only. Dance experience is highly recommended. Auditions are typically in April and last for a few days, all of which are mandatory. The Bruinettes are responsible for all rehearsals and performances as outlined by the Padua Franciscan Marching Band schedule.

Color Guard

The Padua Franciscan Color Guard is one unit of the Padua Franciscan Marching Band. The guard is comprised of 10 – 14 girls who are accepted by audition only. No prior flag experience is necessary – skills needed will be taught at auditions. Auditions are typically in April and last for a few days, all of which are mandatory. The color guard is responsible for all rehearsals and performances as outlined by the Padua Franciscan Marching Band schedule.

Spirit Band

The Padua Franciscan Spirit Band is a volunteer group comprised of students of all grades who play any wind or percussion instrument.  This band uses drum set, guitars, and electric bass by permission of the director.  Spirit Band plays a variety of rock and pop music as halftime entertainment for select home basketball games (varsity boys and girls), and for winter and spring rallies.  Additional performances in recent years have included Padua Varsity Hockey games (played at IceLand USA in Strongsville), public relations performances at local grade schools, and a performance at a rally for Vice President Dick Cheney during the presidential election of 2004.  Students interested in Spirit Band should contact Mr. Wozniak at mwozniak@paduafranciscan.com
