Padua was awarded the St. Romero Solidarity Award for translating letters from children at the Community of Oscar A. Romero in El Salvador. Padua’s Spanish students and teachers were honored at the annual benefit on Saturday, March 23, 2019.

The children’s village, known as COAR, was founded in 1980 in response to St. Romero’s call to protect the voiceless. COAR is a loving refuge for 50 to 100 children – from the violence of criminal gangs, poverty and the danger of migration.

Since 2004, Bruins and students from several other schools in Northeast Ohio have translated letters from COAR children to their sponsors (from Spanish to English).
