The Padua Bruins swept Big Walnut (Sunbury) in straight sets to claim back-to-back Division II State Volleyball Titles on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Wright State University in Dayton.
This is the fifth State Championship in program history and the second time Padua’s team has won back-to-back titles.
“In the beginning of the season I think every team wants to think state championship,” said sophomore setter Ella Mihacevich ’20. “We take it one game at a time, and that’s a huge thing that Coach BeHarry stresses. We win this match and then we’ll talk about the next one. Yes, we were thinking about winning a state championship the whole season, but we didn’t really think about it seriously until (Friday) night after we won (in the semifinals).”
Padua Volleyball State Championship Titles were won in 2017, 2016, 2013, 2009 and 2008.
“At Padua we have really fantastic athletes and we have a great coaching staff,” Head Coach Jim BeHarry said. “We work them hard, they practice hard, they play hard. And I think when you mix all of that up it’s a recipe for success.”
