Absence From School
When a student is absent from or tardy to school for any reason, notification by telephone to the Attendance Office (440.845.8882) by parent or guardian is required between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on each day that the absence occurs. Parents are strongly encouraged to provide a doctor’s excuse and contact the student’s counselor to make arrangements for makeup work if an illness involves more than two consecutive days of absence. A detention will be issued to students whose parents/guardians do not notify the Attendance Office.
Please be prepared to give the following information:
- Student’s name and grade
- Reason for absence
- Caller’s relationship to the student
- Phone number at which a parent or guardian may be reached for verification
On the day of the student’s return after absence, a note of excuse signed by the parent or guardian giving name, date, dates of absence, and reason for absence must be presented at the Attendance Office upon arrival at the school. The student will then be issued an “Admit Slip” for classes obtained. If a student is absent from class for any reason, he/she must present an Admit Slip or pass to the teacher the next time the student attends that class. A detention is issued to students who fail to present a note of excuse. No class work will be allowed to be made up until a note is presented.
The Attendance Office is located in the General Office. Students who have been absent or are tardy must report to this room before reporting to class. Students who will be excused from school during the school day should also report to the Attendance Office to have their excuses validated.
