September 23rd

The Week that Was → Another fantastic week at Padua Franciscan High School is just about in the books. I want to throw a little love at the Girls Soccer Team for their hard-fought, impressive victory Wednesday night! Great work, ladies. Thank you to the student leaders and Mr. Kirkpatrick for another successful Blood Drive this week. Finally, thank you parents for making your way to the rescheduled parents club on Monday night. Please see the Parents Club September 2022 minutes – we hope to see you again in October. At that meeting a parent asked about Driver’s Ed. Please Click Here for that information. Finally, it seems the word of the week is “water.” What is is I remember from my studies?  Water, water, everywhere . . . Thank you for your patience in working around road blocks. We have not heard any updates on when State Road will open once again so we will keep doing our best to adjust to the repairs and the traffic jams.

The Week to Come → Please remember there are no classes on Monday, September 26th as we have our Annual Faculty and Staff Retreat. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue on our own faith journey as adults who lead and teach in this blessed Franciscan Community. There is a lot of information below, including Ticket Forms for homecoming. Also, an updated list of College Visits is below. This week The University of Notre Dame, Cincinnati, John Carroll ROTC, Tri-C, and Miami University will be paying us a visit. Also, look for information soon on off-campus College Visit opportunities. Most importantly, I want to once again draw our attention to the Bruins Big Give. This is such an important day for our community. If you could only see the commitment from our Faculty, Staff, and Administration, you would be proud to know we are committed to far more than providing a transformational education, we are also financially invested in the tuition support of our students. Thank you in advance for sharing your time, treasure, and talent, and please help us continue to spread the word so we can reach this year’s goal of $500,000 – we can do this!!!

Our 6th Annual Bruins Big Give is coming up on Thursday, September 29th. Although the 24-hour day of giving is still weeks away, we are getting the giving started early this year within our school community. We recently received a generous donation from an alum who fully supports Bruins Big Give. Looking to start a new tradition, students will receive a school-year theme Play Loud t-shirt after making a gift to Bruins Big Give. Our Administrative Team has allowed for students to proudly wear the orange Play Loud/BBG t-shirt on the remaining Thursdays in September, including 9/29, Bruins Big Give! Normal dress code rules apply from the waist down. 

Students are being asked to make a gift of $5 or more in order to receive a t-shirt. They can make this gift online any time throughout the week or donate in-person during lunch periods on Wednesdays in September. Advancement staff members will be present in the cafeteria on Wednesdays to collect and record donations as well as hand-out t-shirts.  In order for us to engage our entire Padua community and reach our Bruins Big Give goal we are aiming to be able to promote 100% Bruins Big Give participation among the Padua school community, including students, faculty, staff, and administration.

Bruins Big Give kicks off our annual Franciscan Fund which provides financial aid for our students and funds Campus Ministry, Athletics, Fine Arts, Medtrack, MyTrack, Learning Support Services, and many more of our wonderful programs. We do not have multiple fundraisers throughout the year. Instead, we use a single-fundraising model and Bruins Big Give is THE way to show your financial support and strengthen our Padua mission.  Please help us spread the word to your friends and family who desire to support your son or daughter and all that they are involved in at Padua Franciscan High School. 

By this time, your family should have received a Bruins Big Give mailer.   • Tickets for Homecoming are $15 per person and can be paid in cash or check (made out to Padua Franciscan High School)Tickets will go on sale starting Monday September 26th during all lunch periods
  • Tickets will be sold during lunches and AFTER school during Spirit Week
  • Ticket sales will officially close on Wednesday, 10/5.  Any ticket sold after Oct. 5th will be $20

SENIOR CLASS The class of 2023 will dress down every Friday in September (spirit win from last year).



In your Spirit Week news, one of our Top 10 Men has graciously declined the nomination to Homecoming Court, so we are pleased to announce the male nominee with the next most votes in the nomination process, Matthew Rich.  Congratulations Matt.  


Every Monday, the Counseling Department will share a Mental Health Moment on the Bruins Broadcast Network. Continuing throughout the month of September, your Padua counselors will be recognizing National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Keep a lookout in your email for this month’s flier which contains a list of suicide prevention resources.  And please remember: when in doubt, talk to a trusted adult. 

Class of 2023 and 2024

College Representatives visit Padua each fall and meet with students to discuss important majors, college programs, admissions criteria, scholarships and application procedures. Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend these visits. Students are able to sign up via Naviance and will receive a pass to excuse them for class. Sign-ups close the day before the scheduled visits and it is the student’s responsibility for any work that they miss while they are at the information session. 

Below are the College Information Sessions scheduled for the week of 9/26-9/30.

The Northeast Ohio Suburban College Fair will be held on Thursday, October 13th at John Carroll University. This is a great opportunity for students to explore over 100 colleges right in our own backyard. For more information, please see the 10-13-22 College Fair Flyer.

Class of 2024

The Senior Financial Aid Night will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 7 p.m. in the Cafeteria. Mrs. Sandoval will be providing important information on completing the FASFA, searching for and applying for scholarships, and understanding financial terms and packages. If you are unable to attend, the presentation will be posted on the MyPad Parent Community Page following the presentation. Please also remember that Mrs. Sandoval is available for individual meetings. Her schedule for the year is managed by Mrs. Koshel, please contact her at or by calling (440)845-2444 x158. 

Class of 2023

The Counseling Department visited Junior Homerooms this week to discuss the upcoming PSAT/NMSQT that students will be taking on October 12th. A short informational video about the PSAT that was shown in class can be viewed below. If your student was absent on this day, please have them come down to Counseling to pick up a practice test booklet that was distributed in homeroom. 

Class of 2026

Save the Date – The Counseling Department will be hosting a Freshman Parent Information Night on Wednesday, October 19th from 6-7 p.m. in the Padua Cafeteria. Additional information will be sent as we get closer to the date. We look forward to seeing you there!

Congratulations to sophomore Nicole Parla for her fabulous shirt design which won our Alice in Wonderland logo contest, sponsored by Mrs. Cook and the Visual Art program.  Nicole’s design will be featured on our cast and crew production shirts and marketing materials.  And thank you to ALL who participated in the Alice-themed art show so far.  Final submission deadline to be featured in our gallery is NEXT Friday, September 30th

Art Club will be held every Thursday in room 229 with Ms.Cook. This week members are working on developing their artwork submissions for the Alice and Wonderland exhibition. Reminder that all members must pay their $5 club dues by the end of September.

June 2023 Italy Trip

Mrs. Capuano is accepting registrations until Thursday, September 29th. Please see her in room 126 with any questions.


¡Hola! Spanish Club registration information has been sent to the students through their gmail accounts. The club meets once monthly for cultural activities. The day & time varies depending on other activities that are happening at Padua. The student must register through Google Forms in order to join.  All monthly meeting information will be sent to the students who have registered through Google forms. The fee for registration is $5.00, which can be paid by cash, check or Venmo @PaduaBruins.  If you are paying through Venmo, please be sure to indicate that the payment is for Spanish Club Registration Fee. Hope to see your student there!

For Recipients of EdChoice, EdChoice Expansion & Cleveland Scholarships:

For the 2022/23 school year, EdChoice & Cleveland Scholarship checks will be issued monthly.  The checks are required to be endorsed by the primary parent on the scholarship applications.  We are asking parents to sign a  “2022/23 Limited Power of Attorney for State Scholarship form rather than having to come into Padua once a month to sign the check. 

The primary parent should have received an email notification through MyPad.  Parents will need to log into MyPad under their login credentials (not the student’s), just as with the Financial Policy form.
