Congratulations to the students who were inducted into Padua’s National Honor Society on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
NHS is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of academics, leadership, character and service.
NHS President Anna Mihacevich ’24 reflected back on the various activities her parents encouraged her to participate in during her childhood. While she excelled at many, she failed at others, which often made her feel uncomfortable. She attributes those failures as being invaluable in her growth as a student and individual because being comfortable is the enemy of progress.
As the 2023 recipient of the St. Francis Award for Teaching Excellence, English teacher Ms. Anne Bilancini delivered the keynote address. She referenced composer John Cage’s 1952 composition 4’33”, which is four minutes and 33 seconds of silence. While at first controversial, it has become Cage’s best-known work. Ms. Bilancini drew parallels to our own lives as she discussed the importance of finding some silence in this world full of constant noise and the importance of true rest, as it is with true rest that we clean the whiteboards of our minds so that we can truly excel.
