Senior Awards Assembly 2023

The Padua Franciscan community celebrated its outstanding students during the Senior Awards Assembly at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Friday, May 20, 2022.

The Class of 2023 has been offered over $21 million in non-need-based scholarships. These scholarships testify to the quality and value of a Padua Franciscan education.

The Class of 2023’s valedictorian is Elizabeth Shuman (4.95 GPA). She is a graduate of St. Columbkille School and plans to attend The Ohio State University. The salutatorian is Emily Krayzel (4.94 GPA). She is a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua School and plans to attend The Ohio State University.

In keeping with Padua tradition, each year the Padua faculty has the honor of selecting a senior young man and woman who best represent the ideals of Padua Franciscan High School. The awards of Mr. and Miss Paduan are given to the seniors who exemplify the finest characteristics of the ideal Padua man and woman. All facets of personality are considered in the selection for this honor including Christian values, Franciscan compassion, academic dedication, strong character, superior leadership qualities, and concerned citizenship.

The following students were nominated for Mr. Paduan: Dominic Dabramo, George Gonet, Dominic Kucera, James Kulikowski, and Christopher Vance. The Mr. Paduan 2023 award went to Dominic Kucera.

The following students were nominated for Miss Paduan: Rebecca Cigany, Gianna Gulasey, Emily Padavick, Abigail Recker, and Elizabeth Shuman. The Miss Paduan 2023 award went to Emily Padavick.

Unique to Padua’s Athletic Department are the coveted Mr. and Miss Bruin awards. The Athletic Department and coaches select the seniors who most deserve the honor of the best athlete at Padua. The qualities on which the athletes are evaluated are their athletic skills, high school athletic achievements, participation, coachability, sportsmanship, leadership, academics, and school involvement.

The following students were nominated for Mr. Bruin: Dominic Dabramo, Caden Fyock, Jesse Hayes, Shane Helman, and Christopher Vance. The Mr. Bruin 2023 award went to Christopher Vance.

The following students were nominated for Miss Bruin: Faith Richardson, Carilyn Ruggiero, Jaycee Shulte, Ava Ward, and Alyssa Weber. The Miss Bruin 2023 award went to Alyssa Weber.

The Phi Beta Kappa Award is meant to recognize a student who exemplifies outstanding scholarship, shows academic initiative, and embodies total achievement. The 2023 Phi Beta Kappa Award went to Elizabeth Shuman.

The following students were recognized as National Merit Finalists: Thomas Futey and Alexander Quang. Approximately 15,000 finalists throughout the nation have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Finalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. More than 1.5 million students entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
